All high school debate teams rely on parents and guardians to volunteer as tournament chaperones and debate judges. Please follow the easy steps below to support the team and your child.
Without your volunteer help, our students cannot compete in tournaments. This is a league rule.
This entire process will require a little patience and will take approximately 15 minutes using a computer, printer, scanner and/or smart phone. Thank you!
We count on parents throughout the school year to provide occasional snacks for practices and to serve as judges or chaperones during tournaments.*
Without parent volunteers, we cannot compete in tournaments, per league rules. Please select the practices and tournaments that work best for you: Click here to be directed to our online signup sheet.
To start the process, please request application forms from Sequoia's academic volunteer coordinator, ATLAS Director Elisa Niño-Sears: (650) 387-8390 elisa@atlashs.org. Please copy Mark Olson: seqdebatemo@gmail.com. When you receive the Volunteer Application Form, please enter the following information: On the form, please enter the following information when asked:

your anticipated start and end dates are: 9/20/22 through 7/1/23 (not your start and end dates exactly, just a year long clearance period to allow lots of flexibility)

If you have any questions about this form, please don't hesitate to call, text or email Sequoia's academic volunteer coordinator, ATLAS Director Elisa Niño-Sears: (650) 387-8390 elisa@atlashs.org.
Here is some helpful information for uploading your documents to the district volunteer application site. Please carefully complete steps A, B, C and D detailed below. Thanks!
A) Upload to the volunteer application a scan or photo of the front of your Driver’s License or other US-government issued photo ID. The district will use this and the Volunteer Application to conduct a background check with the county's Sheriff's department. You can scan your license or take a clear picture of it with your cell phone.
B) Upload to the volunteer application your completed Personal Vehicle Use Form. Please print and fill out the following document entitled
Then scan or take a photo of it with your smartphone. Upload that file to your district volunteer application form.
C) Upload to the volunteer application your completed DMV Release Form. Please print and fill out the following document entitled
Important: Your name and driver's license info goes at the top. And you are the "employee" that needs to sign the top half.
Then scan or take a photo of it with your smartphone. Upload that file to your district volunteer application form.
D) Upload to the volunteer application a scan or photo of your Driver’s Insurance. Please make sure that it shows your full name and the dates of your insurance coverage.
** PLEASE NOTE: You do NOT need to upload to the volunteer application your TB Test results. TB testing is NOT required for debate volunteers. **
If you have any trouble uploading your documents to the district's volunteer application site, please email them as attachments to elisa@atlashs.org.
When the district has all the above documents (A, B, C and D as explained above in step 3), you will receive an email from Sarah Navarrete with instructions about visiting our School District Office (located at 480 James Ave., Redwood City, next to Sequoia High School) to pick up a Livescan form to get fingerprinted. Please wait to receive this email before visiting our district office.
Your fingerprinting is the final step to complete clearance. The Livescan form gives the fingerprinting staff the info they need and also serves as payment for the service so that you incur no costs. You'll take this Livescan form and a valid government-issued photo ID to Pack & Mail Express located across the street from Sequoia High School in the shopping center “Sequoia Station” (Address: 1017 El Camino Real, Redwood City. Phone: 650-365-2892). They are normally open Monday through Friday 9am-7pm, Saturday 10-5pm, and Sunday 12noon-4pm. But it’s wise to call before heading over to confirm their current store hours. They do not schedule appointments in advance. Fingerprinting is done on a walk-in basis. We need you to complete fingerprinting at this location so that we can have you cleared in time for your volunteer gig. The district does NOT accept fingerprinting from any other location or volunteer organization, only from this one Pack & Mail location where the district has its DOJ/FBI account, so please plan accordingly.
