This collection focuses on the small details that make Japan memorable: a carefully prepared meal, a favorite snack, a steaming cup of tea, or an everyday object that captures a moment in time. These paintings celebrate the beauty found in ordinary things and the quiet experiences that often become the strongest memories of a journey.
This painting was created as a grand opening gift for Alvin, owner of Rukaa Sushi in Peachtree City, Georgia. Featuring a single piece of salmon nigiri alongside a traditional sake set, the artwork celebrates the beauty of simplicity, craftsmanship, and presentation that define Japanese cuisine.
Rather than focusing on an elaborate meal, the painting highlights a single perfect bite. The clean composition reflects the philosophy that exceptional ingredients and careful preparation need little embellishment.
Part of the Still Life Collection, Salmon Nigiri is inspired by the quiet moments shared around a sushi counter, where artistry, technique, and hospitality come together to create an unforgettable experience.
Every sushi lover has a favorite.
This painting was created as a gift for Alvin, owner of Rukaa Sushi in Peachtree City, Georgia, and features my personal favorite: tamago nigiri. Often overlooked in favor of more elaborate selections, tamago reflects something I have always appreciated about Japanese cuisine, simple ingredients prepared with care and skill.
Served alongside a cup of green tea, the piece celebrates the quiet comfort found in familiar flavors. The warm colors and uncomplicated presentation are intentional, highlighting the idea that not every memorable meal needs to be extravagant.
Part of the Still Life Collection, Tamago Nigiri is a tribute to the small moments that make Japanese food culture so special. Sometimes the dish you return to again and again becomes the one that means the most.
Some paintings are inspired by places. Others are inspired by people.
This piece was created as a grand opening gift for actor Michael Rooker (The Walking Dead, Guardians of the Galaxy), whose favorite sushi is uni (sea urchin). Rooker is part of Rukaa Sushi in Peachtree City, Georgia, a restaurant known for its exceptional sushi and dedication to quality.
Rather than creating a complex scene, I chose to focus on the simplicity and elegance that make Japanese cuisine so memorable. A single piece of uni rests on a traditional serving plate beside a sake flask, allowing the textures, colors, and presentation to speak for themselves. Like many of the best meals in Japan, the beauty comes from restraint rather than excess.
Part of the Still Life Collection, Uni celebrates the food, craftsmanship, and attention to detail that make Japanese dining an experience rather than simply a meal.
