Hi, I'm Ralph.
I'm not a professionally trained artist. By day, I work in facilities and engineering, solving problems, fixing things, and helping keep hotels running. Art started as something completely different: a way to slow down.
My love for Japan began long before I ever picked up a paintbrush. After finally visiting the country, I became fascinated by the moments that most people walk right past. A quiet alley at night. A vending machine glowing in the rain. A mountain path. A missed train. A small shrine tucked between buildings. The ordinary moments that somehow become unforgettable.
Most of my work begins with a memory from my travels or a feeling I want to capture. Sometimes it's peaceful. Sometimes it's humorous. Sometimes it's a little lonely. Every painting tells a small story.
I work primarily in watercolor because it embraces imperfections. The paint has a mind of its own, and often the most interesting parts of a piece are the ones I didn't plan.
Send Me To Japan Studio is more than an art project. It is part of a long-term dream. My goal is to one day own a home in Japan, ideally in the Kyoto or Nagoya area, and spend my days exploring the streets, temples, mountains, and neighborhoods that continue to inspire my work.
Every painting, print, and order helps move that dream one step closer.
Thank you for stopping by and supporting my work. Whether you've visited Japan, hope to visit someday, or simply enjoy the artwork, I'm glad you're here.
