The Lost Fox series follows a small fox wandering through Japan in search of... something. Sometimes it's a destination. Sometimes it's a train. Sometimes it's a feeling. Along the way, he discovers that being lost isn't always a bad thing.
The first painting in the Lost Fox series.
Inspired by my first trip to Japan, this fox stands outside a JR station trying to make sense of a map that might as well have come from another universe. Equal parts nervous, excited, and overwhelmed, he captures the feeling of arriving somewhere you've dreamed about for years and realizing you're completely out of your element.
Like many travelers, he learns that getting lost is often the first step toward finding something unexpected.

What should have been a ten-minute walk to my Airbnb became an hour-and-a-half search through the rain-soaked streets of Kyoto.
Despite having directions, maps, photos, and every tool I needed, nothing seemed to match what I was seeing. The fox stands in for the traveler, staring at a map that somehow makes less sense the longer you look at it.
Inspired by a very real afternoon spent wandering Gion in the rain, this painting is a reminder that sometimes the wrong turns become the best memories.

In all my travels through Japan, one of my biggest fears was missing the last train.
I loved staying out late, wandering city streets after dark, and squeezing every last moment out of the day. More than once, I found myself running toward a station convinced I had pushed my luck too far, only to discover there were still a few trains left.
I always made it.
But I always ran.
This painting captures that recurring travel nightmare: arriving just a moment too late and watching the final train disappear into the night. Fortunately, it never actually happened to me—but after enough close calls, I knew exactly how it felt.
