Topic: The Killer Whale “Keiko”
Objectives:
1- Students will be able to read a paragraph about killer whales.
2- Students will be able to read the paragraph they wrote with good pronunciation.
3- Students will be able to use different technology tools well.
4- Students will be able to recall the names related to sea life and the animals live in the sea such as “orca, killer whale, pool, circus, etc.”
Lesson Introduction:
Students read a paragraph about Keiko with the help of their teacher. They use quizlet to remember and test your knowledge about the words they learn in the paragraph. Then the teacher gives the paragraph sentences out of order by using wordwall, and asks students to put them correct order. Lastly, the students write a short paragraph about killer whales and as a homework, they record their voices by using podbean.
Activities:
1- Quizlet: The teacher prepares flashcards by using quizlet. The teacher uses the words from paragraph that will be used in the lesson. The teacher writes the words that is new for students. Technology tools are interesting for todays’ students, for this reason; with the help of quizlet students will have fun while learning new things. This tool helps them to learn and remember. In addition to this, if the teacher shares the quizlet link with his/her students, whenever they forget the words, students can check again the words and remember. 2- Wordwall: Worldwall is really beneficial, funny and effective tool to learn. The teacher writes the sentences out of order, and in the lesson time, after reading the paragraph to check their memory, students put all the sentences in the correct form. This is an effective tool to check students how much they give their attention while the paragraph was been reading. In addition to this “put the sentences correct order” activity, students can change the style of the game as they wish. 3- Podbean: After writing about their thoughts and knowledge about killer whales, to do this students can also search more about the killer whales if they want, the teachers asks them to record their voices while reading their writings like a podcast. Recording their voices will be homework for students. After that, students will share their recordings on any platform the teacher asks. In the lesson time, there may not be a enough time for all students to speak, so with the help this activity, all students can practice speaking activity. Assessment:
The teacher hands out the KWL charts to each student. They fill the charts and explain it to the classroom. In this chart K represents "what ı know", W means ""what ı want to know, and L means "what ı learned". Ater this activity, the teacher explains what the students want to know. Thanks to this activity, the teacher can easily check his/her students' learning for the class.
