« I enjoyed learning about the different economy types and the way they explained it through different characters. »
What?
The "Sustainable Economic Models (SEMod)" project was launched in 2018. It is based on the results of various recent scientific studies about companies' motivations to adopt pro-social and pro-environmental behaviours. The project aims to make accessible the conclusions of this research and the new sustainable economic models resulting from these motivations to young people aged from 14 to 18 as well as to students enrolled in higher education (Hautes Écoles and Universities).
Why?
In recent years, all social and ecological indicators have been terribly bad. Scientists on all sides point to human activity as the main driver of climate change. It is abundantly clear that the capitalist system as we know it today is unsustainable in the long term. In this context, organisations and companies have moved towards more sustainable modes of operation and production.
Through the tools listed here, the project therefore aims to introduce pupils and students to these alternative modes of functioning and producing so that they understand that they can act, be it as citizens and consumers or as young professionals.
How?
The main transmission tool we use is a theatre play that is performed in our partner schools and followed by a talk with the actor on the alternatives he presented.
In addition, to allow teachers to further exchange and explore these economic models even after the performance, we provide educational material under the form of videos and teaching sheets. For more information about the play and other related tools, click here.
With whom?
This project was made possible thanks to te financial support of BRAIN-be, ARES and the City of Brussels.
The ARES subproject is the result of a collaboration with UMons, UNamur, HELMo and HE2B.
For the development of our pedagogical tools, we worked with CAP, ECOLES and other ULB units and departments.
