Through our educational lens of SEL it became apparent how this methodology is applicable to all ages and is able to aid students, “… comprehend their emotions, to feel those emotions fully, and demonstrate empathy for others.” (National University, 2020) These skills are modelled to encourage mental health awareness, as well as relationship and life skills. We will explore a model that has been created to help educators plan and embed SEL within their classrooms.
Self-regulated learning, “is a core conceptual framework to understand the cognitive, motivational, and emotional aspects of learning” (Panadero, 2017). SRL within the class is a coalescence of a number of variables (cognitive strategies, emotional aspects, self-efficacy, etc.) that influence learning, which are then studied holistically to design learning. Like SEL, we will explore some models of SRL to demonstrate the practicality of SRL and what it looks like in action.
