Jesus said to them, “My food is to do the will of Him who sent Me, and to finish His work. 35 Do you not say, ‘There are still four months and then comes the harvest’? Behold, I say to you, lift up your eyes and look at the fields, for they are already white for harvest! 36 And he who reaps receives wages, and gathers fruit for eternal life, that both he who sows and he who reaps may rejoice together.
John 4:34-36
There has never been a better time like the present to spread the good news of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ (2 Corinthians 6:2). Thankfully, our good Shepherd has not left us alone in the ability to do this great work. When in doubt about whether we should spread the good news about salvation, Jesus assures us that it is through His authority that we are able to go out and share His love with others (Matthew 28:16-20). Everything is already prepared for us to go, be it provision, healing, mercy and even the hearts of unbelievers just waiting to hear about a God who loves and cherishes. The question now is, will YOU go?
Go in Faith
Waiting is probably one of the most uncomfortable things we can go through as human beings. The urge to move on to the next task or the next thing is becoming more and more. In a word where it seems like time is not on our side, it's important to remember to slow down once in a while and look at the One who controls time itself.
In this 7 Day Devotional, we sit back and take a moment to pay attention to seasons of waiting in the Bible - how people must have felt in the thick of it, but more importantly, how God showed up for them.
So it was, when Jesus returned, that the multitude welcomed Him, for they were all waiting for Him. - Luke 8:40
1At that time the disciples came to Jesus and asked, “Who, then, is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven?” 2He called a little child to him, and placed the child among them. 3And he said: “Truly I tell you, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. 4Therefore, whoever takes the lowly position of this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven. 5And whoever welcomes one such child in my name welcomes me.
- Matthew 18:1-5
Jesus loves the little children, all the children of the world. Red and yellow, black and white - they are perfect in His sight. Jesus loves the little children of the world!
If children are the greatest in God's kingdom then that means that the ministry of serving children is the greatest too! This August, we participated in the Soup Kitchen ministry under the Emmanuel Church Windhoek and the Lechem Foundation. We visited a church in Soweto, Katutura, made up of a child-only congregation. After enjoying some games and ministry sessions in small groups, we helped dish out some warm, hearty meals that were prepared by their faithful and persevering soup kitchen volunteers. Every week, these children gather at the church looking forward to receiving the word of God for their hearts and a warm meal for their tummies! The Soup Kitchen is definitely a ministry worth joining.
18 “The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to set the oppressed free,
19 to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor."
- Luke 4:18-19
We had the opportunity to attend a Training Camp organized by the Lechem Foundation held at the Elim Training Centre in Okahandja, where Soup Kitchen volunteers were encouraged and equipped to continue the good work of feeding children at their respective soup kitchens. We were taught small-scale farming techniques and how to preach the gospel in a simple way to reach the hearts of little children. Through the power of the Holy Spirit, we have been anointed and commissioned to spread the gospel to all creatures (Mark 16:15-18).

Road to Emmaus
30 When He was at the table with them, He took bread, gave thanks, broke it and began to give it to them. 31 Then their eyes were opened and they recognized Him, and He disappeared from their sight. 32 They asked each other, “Were not our hearts burning within us while He talked with us on the road and opened the Scriptures to us?”
- Luke 24:30-32
For our last adventure of the month of August, we were invited by Pentecostal Protestant Church in Hochland Park, Windhoek to participate in their much anticipated Worship Night event. With the theme, "Spirit Break Out", we were inspired by the story of the two disciples on their way to Emmaus. Despondent and disappointed by the crucifixion of Christ and their unmet expectations, Luke writes that our gracious and resurrected Lord suddenly appeared alongside them on their journey. He expounded on the Scriptures in the Word that explained who He is and what His mission is all about. Soon after, their eyes were opened through the Holy Spirit, as Jesus was revealed to them, and a "fire" burned within their hearts. This story is an encouragement that God's guidance and light is with us in the missions field (Psalm 119:105). If we seek God's perspective, will He not reveal His word to us (Jeremiah 29:13)? Will our hearts not burn within us? May our hearts rejoice and our eyes be enlightened, in the name of Jesus (Psalm 19:8).
