Environmental Health Coalition (sign up to get involved). The "Environmental Health Coalition (EHC) works for environmental justice in the San Diego/Tijuana region and throughout California. Founded in 1980, EHC has worked to reduce pollution and improve health and well-being for thousands of people in underserved, low-income communities."
San Diego Food System Alliance (get a free membership, check out the community volunteer opportunities, and jobs in the food system): "The San Diego Food System Alliance is a diverse and inclusive network of leaders in San Diego County—farmers, fishermen, food business owners, workers, organizers, policymakers, funders, and residents—committed to building a food system that works for everyone."
San Diego Hunger Coalition (see their calls to action): The "San Diego Hunger Coalition works collaboratively with community partners to create equitable access to food assistance in San Diego County through research, education, and advocacy."
Foodshed (see their distribution options): "Foodshed works directly with farmers, eaters, and entrepreneurs to cultivate an equitable food system in San Diego while addressing the challenges posed by the climate crisis."
ProduceGood (check out their volunteer opportunities): ProduceGood is "a food recovery organization but not a traditional one. We go to the source of surplus produce (orchards, backyards, farms, farmers markets and grocers) to glean the excess and then transport it to pantries, shelters and other organizations who feed food insecure people in San Diego County."
SDSU's Center for Better Food Futures supports "action-oriented research that investigates both the scientific underpinnings and social viability of low-input solutions to increase food security, support food livelihoods, and reduce the environmental footprint of food".
