Dr. Şebnem Yardımcı-Geyikçi's research spans the intersection of artificial intelligence, politics, and democracy. As the leader of the "Artificial Intelligence, Power, and Politics" research group at the University of Bonn, her work investigates the impact of AI on civil society, political institutions, and the public sphere. She also explores the evolution of political parties and party systems, particularly in Turkey and Southern Europe, and the future of democracy in the AI age.

Associate Professor Dr. Şebnem Yardımcı-Geyikçi serves as a Senior Research Fellow at the Institute of Science and Ethics and the Sustainable Artificial Intelligence Laboratory at the University of Bonn. She leads the "Artificial Intelligence, Power, and Politics" research group, which explores the interplay between AI, civil society, the public sphere, and the state. Prior to her current position, Dr. Yardımcı-Geyikçi was a faculty member in the Department of Political Science and Public Administration at Hacettepe University, one of Turkey’s leading research institutions. She earned her first Ph.D. in Political Science from the University of Essex in 2013 and her second Ph.D. from Bilkent University in 2015. Her research focuses on political parties, party systems, democracy, the future of democracy, artificial intelligence, and social movements. Dr. Yardımcı-Geyikçi’s work has been published in prestigious academic journals, including Party Politics, Democratization, Political Quarterly, Mediterranean Politics, PS: Political Science and Politics, and Government and Opposition. In addition to her research at the University of Bonn, Dr. Yardımcı-Geyikçi was an individual fellow at the Netherlands Institute for Advanced Study in the Humanities and Social Sciences (NIAS). She also served as a visiting researcher at the University of Michigan through a Fulbright scholarship. In recognition of her contributions to the field, she was awarded the Young Scientist Award in Political Science by the Science Academy of Turkey in 2022.
