Looking Up at History

Standing at the foot of Whitby's famous 199 Steps, it's impossible not to look up. The winding climb, the ancient stone walls and the abbey watching over the town create a scene that has inspired visitors for generations.

This artwork began with one of my own photographs before being transformed into the bold, colourful style of Layover & Lipstick. It captures that first moment at the bottom of the steps, where anticipation meets history and every climb begins with a single step.
