Founded on August 1, 1961 to August 31, 1964, the status of the Hasanuddin University Teaching and Education Faculty was based on PTIP Ministerial Decree No. 30 of 1964 dated August 1, 1961.
on September 1, 1964 until January 1965 the status of the Makassar branch of the Yogyakarta IKIP, based on PTIP Ministerial Decree No. 154 of 1965 on September 1, 1965. and on January 5 to August 3, 1999, was independent with the name IKIP Makassar, based on the Presidential Decree No. Republic of Indonesia 272 of 1965 on January 5, 1965.
In this phase, from April 1, 1972, Makassar IKIP changed to Ujungpandang IKIP by following the change of name of Makassar Municipality to Ujungpandang Municipality. and on August 4, 1999 to the present status of the University with the name of Makassar State University (UNM) based on the Presidential Degree No. Republic of Indonesia 93 of 1999 dated August 4, 1999. Until the middle of 2011, the number of D3 9 study programs was as many as 58 study programs, 12 as many as S2 study programs and 5 S3 study programs.
