When I taught at Anuban Udon Thani School, I was particularly observing Kindergarten 3 and one item that fascinated me was the teaching strategies used. It is a Montessori based school that focuses on child activities as it provides a practical learning environment that enables children to be responsible for their action.
Practical activities or actual life skills form the core of the Montessori curriculum. For instance, I saw how the children were trained to make their own snacks in school. On the first day they learned about preparation of Sandwich and fruit salads by using real food items and equipments. Another day the children made the lesson even more interesting as they prepared Som Tam which is a Thai salad. The students seemed to truly have fun with this activity and were able to learn about culture and items found in local markets, as well as fine motor skills.
The diversity of materials and things used in Kindergarten 3 class is unspeakable and obviously intended to support the kids’ direct experience. Practical life activities include utensils in use, such as knives that are age appropriate, bowls and some foods for cooking among others. The children are afforded chance to conduct practice of independence tasks which include making of their beds before nap time and after. Performing this routine activity is very helpful in teaching the child responsibility and to remind him or her on the need to maintain good health.

At Anubanudonthani School, the sources of learning and technology include a variety of tools designed to enhance the educational experience. Classrooms are equipped with TVs and projectors for multimedia presentations, making lessons more engaging and interactive. Computers, tablets, iPads, and phones are integrated into the learning process, allowing students to access digital tools and resources. In addition to government-provided textbooks, the school also offers a selection of interesting books from outside the school, carefully chosen to align with the Thai Basic Core Curriculum. These resources support a dynamic and technology-driven learning environment, fostering both academic growth and digital literacy.
Students are evaluated by using different assessment tools in order to evaluate their knowledge as well as the skills. An example of applied knowledge is through project-based assessment whereby teachers are able to assess students in their use of the acquired knowledge when developing activities such as presentations or reports. Performance tasks are practical activities with reflections in the form of art productions, Documenting or outcome of an experiment. Since portfolios document students’ development, it is easy to monitor and review progress with students throughout the different subjects. Both peer and self-assessments allows students to think critically about the kind of work they have done as well as work their peers are doing and take responsibility for what they are doing. Discussions and debates evaluate achievement in the area of communication and various forms of analysis and comprehension, and this is especially the case with addend disciplines Thai Literature, or Social Studies. These are intended to be measures of academic content knowledge and personal/social responsibility, which is CA’s focus on developmentally appropriate learning goals.
