Why Kentucky?

We focus our work in and around Louisville, Kentucky. Our state represents a critical setting for addressing HIV prevention needs. As part of the Southern U.S., the region with the highest PrEP-to-need ratio and accounting for half of all new HIV diagnoses, Kentucky faces significant challenges in PrEP access and uptake. The state was late to adopt PrEP and continues to report lower usage rates, compounded by high poverty and a large uninsured population. Additionally, rising rates of alcohol use disorders further complicate engagement along the PrEP Care Continuum. These overlapping factors underscore the urgent need for multilevel interventions tailored to the realities of communities in Kentucky, particularly for those at disproportionate risk.
