Marine Debris Rangers is a coastal community assistance program implemented in more than 20 provinces in Indonesia in collaboration with Divers Clean Action and KFC Indonesia. Sumatera Utara did not escape being one of the provinces implementing this activity, which is coordinated by Seabolga.
Marine Debris Rangers has several activities carried out for 6 months, including routine beach clean ups every month, education at schools, community workshops, door to door education and campaign. The achievements of this program has collected 646,577 kg of beach waste, 198,986 kg of household waste, educated 110 students from 3 different schools and has educated 180 families in Sibolga during 6 months of activities from September 2021 to March 2022.
This activity conduct to collect marine data that can be used as a basis for creating activities or policies according to the unique composition of waste found in Sibolga.
This workshop more about waste management including making compost, ecobricks, mats from plastic waste and eco-enzymes.
An effective way to stop the waste problem is to teach the younger generation from as early as possible that all individuals must be responsible for protecting the environment.
Educate local community about reducing and managing waste from home and leads to behavior change.
