Focus

The global human population is set to grow to 9 billion by 2050. This will bring with it challenges to provide resources and habitats for everyone. By exploring modern food production systems, students will assess wild-caught fisheries, agriculture, and aquaculture as tools to sustainably feed our growing population.


Driving Question

By 2050 we will need to feed an additional two billion people, can we do that without overwhelming the planet?


Learning Performances

Students assess population growth trends and theorize potential impacts on global systems.

Students discuss what the term sustainability means, especially in the context of food production.

Students assess the environmental challenges food systems face when producing food.

Students work in groups to draw conclusions on methods and practices food systems can adopt to increase the overall sustainability of the production by exploring relevant data sets, news articles, and videos.
