As a teacher, I strive to guide students in their historical inquiry in order to enable them to become self-directed agents of social change through a critical understanding of history and its dynamics.
I am currently an Instructor in History in the multidisciplinary Department of Humanities and Social Sciences at Red Deer College (Red Deer Polytechnic since 2021). My core responsibilities involve preparing students, most of whom are not History majors, in the first and second years of undergraduate studies. The majority of the students I teach major in Education and require History courses as a preparation for teaching Social Studies. This has influenced my approach to teaching history in that I have come to build more flexibility in assignments to target a broader range of instructional outcomes, while remaining rigorous and focused on historical methods. This is reflected in the design of the course outlines available below.
For a more detailed expression of my teaching philosophy, see the dedicated pages. Below is a list of the variety of courses I have taught. Student evaluations of courses can be found in the relevant sections for McGill University, the University of Ottawa / Carleton University, or Red Deer College / Polytechnic.
Responsibilities include: development of curriculum, lecture preparation and delivery, and full responsibility for assessment. Additionally, may include service responsibilities to the department or institution.
