Letter from Cynthia

Dear Students and SDLC Families,

Welcome back!

Who could have anticipated we would be wearing colorful masks and being reminded to wash our hands and stay safe when it's not even Halloween! We want to encourage safety and health, so we will be starting this semester online from our homes rather than on campus. During the Fall semester we will offer our CORE mobility, counseling, speech, memory and computer classes. Our HEART electives will be Choir, Horticultural Therapy, Painting and Brain Games – all online.

To help us orient to this major transition, we invite everyone to join us online for a Convocation --- a time of beginning together. Our faculty and staff will share key pointers regarding Fall classes. Students, families and caregivers are welcome to join this special Zoom time. We will record the Convocation and post it on our website for later viewing.

Fall Semester Online Convocation

Tentatively Rescheduled to Mon Aug 31st, 9:30am

Zoom ID # 961 8302 6052

(an email reminder will be sent on Sun Aug 30th and will include phone numbers for those who need to dial in)

Each week in your classes you will check-in with your instructor, engage in the lesson and see friends. Classes will decrease isolation and increase your strength and skills. Cabrillo nursing students will again support our community with weekly Tele-Health calls available to students, family members and caregivers. We will have Medical Assisting externs and a graduate student intern alongside our new, engaging Speech and Language Instructor, Brandy Dickinson.

Our faculty will help you register via phone calls, and Sally will continue to be our key point person to keep things coordinated at the Stroke & Disability Learning Center. If you want to make changes to you registered classes, please call Sally. If you have questions regarding other classes you may be registered for on campus, please contact the appropriate department or ask Sally for assistance.

As the overall health situation improves we will follow guidelines and re-evaluate coming back for in-person classes. We look forward to seeing you online this fall.

Cynthia
