Youth Team Development

We are grateful to have received a grant from EDF Renewables Corriemoillie Wind Farm Community Fund (Strathpeffer) and Foundation Scotland to purchase safety equipment.

Our aim for this year to further develop our youth team and to recruit more young people. Supporting youth members beyond the journey through life, by teamwork and the skills it teaches us.

Youth members will benefit by developing communication skills, through learning about water safety- from giving instructions, to asking clarifying questions, to pointing out any hazards within the water and taking a different course, or planning a race course on the water. This activity will be supported by experienced Coxes who will have PVG clearance.

Teamwork within a safe and supportive environment will allow our youth members to practice critical life skills in order to assert their needs and those within within the team framework through life. This also has additional benefits of developing resilience and increasing self-esteem.

Skiffie Worlds 2022

Strathpeffer and District Community Rowing Club have returned from the Skiffie World Championships in the Netherlands buoyed with our success and reflecting on how far we have progressed following a gruelling fundraising campaign to get there.

Our team comprising Hazel Inglis (Cox) and Nicola Williamson, Kylie Blandford, Anna Myeshkova and Sarah Nicolas have been seen training for week from The Storehouse.

They took Bronze in the Open Women Category. CONGRATULATIONS..!!

There were teams from Scotland, the Netherlands, USA, Canada, Ireland and England. We placed 18 out of 54 clubs and approximately 1300 participants.

Many members of the club were able to cheer them on both at the event and on a live stream provided by the organisers- even though our skiff was misnamed Fern instead of Tern..!

The week started with a fleet review of all the participants by the Mayor of Kortgene and a Royal Commissioner. Tern was the second boat in the rowing parade and coxed by our Chairperson Tor Justad. He said : "It was the proudest experience for me as I thought of our small club which was set up by a few of us in 2017 after seeing the success of the Ullapool Club. Now we have two skiffs and a Ness Yawl being built- I'm so very proud of our builders and everyone who has got us to this stage."

Club members were able to row with other teams and we borrowed rowers from other clubs to make up our crews- Many thanks to Emma (Eastern) Alicia (Strangford) Saartje (North Berwick) Wee Pete (Stranraer) Elaine (Killyleagh) Big Pete & Ingrid (Sutor Skiffies) Lowell & Phil (Boston) Sean (Collieston). Claire (Barra) Caillan (Row Porty) and Vikki (St Andrews) registered as Strathpeffer Rowers for the worlds to keep us legal.

The spirit of coastal rowing was alive and well- the enjoyment of competition but above all having fun and socialising with crews from other Scottish and International Clubs.

Looking forward to Skiffie Worlds 2025..! (...and if in Scotland we have promised to lend one of our boats to Boston Area Skiff Club)

SKIFFIE WORLDS 2022

That is our teams heading off to represent Strathpeffer & District CRC in the Skiffie World Championships being held in Kortgene, Netherlands 27th June to 2nd July. It promises to be a great event with a lot of 'apres row' being put on by the hosts. We wish our under 40's, 40+, 50+ and open teams the best of luck. Bring us back some medals.  GO PEFFER POWER..!

ULLAPOOL REGATTA 21ST & 22ND MAY 2022

The first regatta of the season took place in Ullapool. It wouldn't be Ullapool if the conditions weren't challenging. 14 teams took part, with some coming up from Edinburgh, North Berwick and Orkney giving us all a run for our money.

On Saturday we were faced with high winds and some chop on the water. Getting up to the turning buoy took A LOT of effort. However, our 240+ men- Bruce, Mike, Marcus & Tor, coxed by Andy, conducted an impressive row in those conditions coming in 3rd with a fantastic time of 14 minutes 50 seconds.

On Sunday the 'on the water' conditions were much better, however the rain did not let up at all. We had to bail the boat a few times before setting off..! Our under 40 women- Nicola, Kylie, Ellen & Laura, coxed by Hazel, came in 1st in what was an exciting race with an impressive time of 13 minutes 14 seconds.

Well done to our winning teams..!!
