Canvas is a digital learning management system for student engagement in communication, interaction, and multimedia presentation. In simpler words, it's an online classroom. Canvas offers may tools faculty can use to let students complete assignments, hold discussions, take quizzes, post announcements, track grades, and so much more.
While faculty are not required to use Canvas to teach an online course, every faculty member has already been given an online Canvas course for any existing or new in-person course. Canvas also has many built-in features that allow faculty to communicate with students easily that follows FERPA protections. Faculty can login to the Canvas course following these steps:
Login @ https://sdccd.instructure.com/
Username: your 10-digit employee ID number
Password: your 8-digit birthdate (mmddyyyy)

If you are new to Canvas, it is highly suggested to visit the SDCCD Online Pathways site to learn how to use Canvas professionally.
California Community College faculty and staff can visit the Vision Resource Center to create an account, browse learning opportunities and connect with colleagues. Once an account is created and you are logged in, there are many training available through their partnership with LinkedIn Learning:

NOTE: Skip sections 1, 2, and 3. SDCCD has already created a Teacher account for all faculty available at https://sdccd.instructure.com/. It is not recommended to create a new teacher account outside of the school's system. SDCCD will create a new course shell for every class offered at SDDCD. SDCCD will automatically add students to your SDCCD Canvas Course Shell once they register for the course.
