The Black Student Union Coalition is a project backed by the San Diego Unified School District and co-founded by student leaders Tatiana Howell and Endiya Griffin in 2019. It serves as a platform and community through which Black students, allies, and community stakeholders throughout the greater San Diego area can connect in order to uplift the Black community. Throughout our website you will find resources such as the BSU Coalition Handbook, BSU meeting model curriculum, community partnership opportunities, Black community related events going on throughout San Diego.
The Black Student Union Coalition’s mission is to empower and support Black students in San Diego Unified School District by uniting and working alongside students, community partners, and allies of the Black community.
Our vision is to create a collective of Black student organizations from each campus for whom we will provide a foundation and voice. With this voice, we will combat systemic racism, provide opportunities for enrichment, and raise awareness about the importance of identity development. As we engage in culturally-responsive curriculum, attend Black events, and work on service projects, we hope to uplift San Diego's Black community creating lasting effects for generations to come.
Celebrate Black History Month with creativity and pride! We’re inviting students to design a flag that represents the rich history, culture, and contributions of Black communities. The winning design will be proudly displayed throughout the month of February and beyond! Our goal is to vote on designs in January and have a prototype to reveal at the Black History Month Flag Raising on February 3.
The BSU Coalition develops and promotes events that will unite, inspire, and inform Black youth. Check out our calendar for upcoming meeting dates and community events!
