Battling the Opioid Crisis

Thank you for stopping by and checking out our campaign that is focused on fighting the opioid crisis in the state of CT!

You too can become a warrior for The Opioid Crisis!

Who We Are:

We are a class comprised of 21 students from Southern Connecticut State University (SCSU) with a mission to combat the opioid crisis. Check out our site to learn more about us, and why we decided to become OCWarriors!

Our Mission:

In order to eliminate the cost barrier and improve accessibility for those affected by the opioid epidemic, we will create an impactful change for addicted individuals. We will achieve this by advocating for increased funding to benefit state-run detox centers and aftercare programs.

What is the U.S. Opioid Crisis?

In the late 1990s, pharmaceutical companies reassured the medical community that patients would not become addicted to opioid pain relievers and healthcare providers began to prescribe them at greater rates.

Increased prescription of opioid medications led to widespread misuse of both prescription and non-prescription opioids before it became clear that these medications could indeed be highly addictive.

In 2017, HHS declared a public health emergency.
