On February 26, the International Mathematical Union announced the International Congress of Mathematicians (ICM) will be online (Virtual ICM 2022 | International Mathematical Union (IMU)), making it a virtual event available for all. Independent groups of volunteers are hosting other events to stand in for parts of the scientific program of an in-person ICM. This Short Communications Satellite (SCS) is one such independent group, calling for short communications to display in July 2022 alongside the congress offerings. The organizers are selecting entries on recent mathematical work for good communication and other attributes. Selected entries will be displayed digitally and some public feedback will be gathered.
People are encouraged to register, submit a short communication in PDF format, contribute to the review process, and volunteer for other tasks of the SCS.

(For detailed policies see guidelines. Further details wil be provided to registered members. )
The major tasks of the SCS are: submission, review, judging, and organization. Anyone who registers to do a task is called a member (or volunteer, reviewer, or judge).
The order of tasks for a member are:
Register: Provide basic information and corresponding email to the organizers. Some of this information will be displayed on separate pages associated with the selected entries. Members can provide some additional data including links to external material.
NOTE: SCS registration is independent from registration for the ICM; the SCS does not expect to share registration with anyone.
Submit: Members can submit 0,1, or 2 entries as PDFs. If 2 entries, one should be poster format and one should be slide set format. (See below about other formats.) Note the entry form is different and linked from the registration form.
Review: Members will receive a list of links to entries from an organizer. Using the guidelines provided, you should check that the entry is suitable for selection, and send a report back for that entry. If you submit an entry, you will be required to review.
Judging: You will receive a list of section numbers. Based on judging guidelines provided, you will rank all entries in those sections based on criteria for good communication, without regard to section number. Judges will be chosen by the organizers based on the volunteer availability.
Most of the SCS correspondence will be between a member and an organizer. The organizers will choose who reviews which entries. A “Poster Room” will be constructed to display the choices and the accompanying data provided by the member (“User Pages”).
Behavior Policy: We ask that all SCS correspondence and behavior be respectful. Remember that everyone in this satellite is volunteering their time and talents to produce a good result. If you sense a problem, your first step is to contact one of the SCS organizers and tell them about the problem.
Content Policy: The organizers are looking for entries which meet these criteria:
Discusses new or recent mathematical results in one of the 20 sections. Here is a list of section names.
Contains results obtained by the author/submitter
Gives an example of effective communication suitable for public presentation.
Note: We are looking for entries whose results would be published or at least accepted in internationally reputable journals. Entries which claim significant progress on famous unsolved problems must clearly demonstrate this quality.
Detailed guidelines for content are in a document available to registered members. See also the Formats and Styles page.
At present entries are required to be in scientific English. An entry should be a PDF file formatted as a poster or as a set of slides. Members who wish to submit alternate formats should consider finding converters to PDF. Members who wish to submit video or audio entries should contact the organizers.
To judge how well an entry communicates, a panel of judges chosen from the volunteers will rank the entries. The organizers will use the review reports and judges reports to aid in the selection of entries. This decision of selection is final: there will be no time for revision after the selection date.
In addition, the public will be allowed to vote on the selected entries and provide some other feedback. Members wishing more feedback on their entries should provide contact information for the public as additional data.
The SCS is looking at archiving the material from the Poster room. Members who submit entries will be asked to grant the SCS and its agents display and archive rights.
