The Shelby Rhodes Memorial Scholarship was established in 2017 by Bro. Jon Cox, members of her church home at Bethany #1 Missionary Baptist Church, family and friends to honor the memory of Shelby Carol Rhodes who died tragically in an automobile accident August 10, 2017. Shelby’s passing came just two days before beginning her senior year in college.
In her 21 years Shelby lived a truly remarkable life. Spirited, humble, kind, sweet, graceful, forthright and caring she had a deep and lasting impact on all who knew her.
“I have observed Shelby possessing a totally consistent academic pursuit of excellence, an outstanding participatory and leadership attitude toward learning, wisdom beyond her age, and always appropriate behavior to earn our community’s respect and full support.”
The Shelby Rhodes Memorial Scholarship is awarded to individuals that express great character, passion for learning & excellence, integrity, and servant leadership. In honor of Shelby, each recipient is granted a one-time scholarship in the amount of $1,000 toward furthering their education and changing the world.
The Bass tournament was established by Jaret and Traci Rushing shortly after Shelby's passing to raise money for scholarships. It has been widely successful and has allowed for the giving of many Scholarships to Sheridan High School seniors. In addition to the bass tournament, we host a very popular raffle, where we give away thousands of dollars worth of prizes thanks to our generous sponsors. Anyone can purchase raffle tickets but must be present to win.
