Harold Wood's great-great grandparents were early pioneers in the Black Hills area. He drove to all the different places where his great-grandmother lived, her church, and the restaurant she had. He also learned the value of visiting the actual gravesite as he discovered a nearby marker that is probably for a grandchild he didn't know about.

Barbara Corsey and her daughter Susan traveled to the Czech Republic and met with a genealogist at the little village where their ancestors had lived. He took them to the church where some were married and then he introduced them to her grandmother's second cousin. They met four generations and got invited to their house for a meal. The relative took them to every house in the village that one of their relatives had lived in. it was an unbelievable experience.

Dean Vinten, was stationed near Bremerhaven, Germany when he was in the service. His mother, who was of German heritage, asked if she could come visit. She wanted to visit the town of Balingen where her grandmother had come from. We went there, found the church, and were able to get in. We found the pastor, who took us down to the bowels of the church, wiped away all the cobwebs, looked at all the volumes and volumes and pulled out one and found her name in the membership list. There was a red check next to it - he explained that meant she had immigrated to the United States and it showed the year she went. Click on images to enlarge. Oct 2025
My great-great grandfather, Peter Jacobsen, was a good friend of Buffalo Bill Cody. Cody spent his early childhood in a small town in northeast Iowa near where Peter and his family lived.
In later years when Cody would bring his Wild West Show to Davenport he would always visit Peter at his beer garden in "German Davenport." - Kathie Roskom
