We recognize that many potential members are new to genealogy—a field that is greatly enjoyed by many in our community. Our Genealogy Club is dedicated not only to providing quality resources, technology, and research tools, but also to assisting new members in their quest to become more proficient genealogists. Our Mentoring Program provides the opportunity to work with skilled, experienced members who offer:
Valuable orientation and guidance
Hands-on learning experiences
Personalized support tailored to your research goals
Special classes and demonstrations
Constructive peer review.
We encourage both new and experienced members interested in genealogy research to explore our Mentoring Program. Whether you're seeking to improve your research skills, discover more extensive resources, or learn innovative ways to use available technology, our mentors are here to help.

Meeting Your Mentors
Each month we will be introducing a mentor to show you what he or she can do to help you on your genealogical discovery journey. This month we are introducing Kathy Cowsert.
See how she can help you meet your goals and use the lab's resources, technology and research tools. Her special genealogy skills, research interests and expertise are:
Daughters of the American Revolution (She is a member)
Patriots from South Carolina
American Revolution
Land records, property ownership, and family connections, e.g., records from the Bureau of Land Management and (War) Bounty and purchased land information
Most Interesting Fact: Kathy found that in 1838, long before the Civil War, her mother's family purchased a slave in Missouri and brought him to Illinois to free him.
