While each Troop might have a few nuances, in general they are all set up by Patrols with elected Youth Leadership & Adult volunteers who ensure all activities are successful and that Scouts are advancing.
A Patrol is defined as, “a small team of normally six to eight members where Scouts learn skills together, share responsibilities, and take on leadership roles. If you’re familiar with Cub Scouts, think of these as the enhanced version of a Den. The Scout patrol offers unparalleled opportunities for youth development. Unlike a sports team, the patrol requires members to pool resources and work together on diverse tasks in varying circumstances. This method fosters self-reliance, teamwork, and the successful application of a wide range of life skills. Every member contributes, building self-esteem, a sense of belonging, and competency. The patrol method fundamentally models good citizenship and develops servant leadership.”
Troop 750 currently had two established Patrols… the Folding Chairs and the Eagles. Patrols are added and/or adjusted based on the membership needs to the Troop.
At the start of their journey, all new scouts are placed in their own patrol (the “Greenies” Patrol – named for their newness to the program, a.k.a. “being green”) until after the annual Summer Camp event, when they will choose which of the established patrols they want to join.
