Good afternoon, Scott Families.
This month's theme is engagement! I invite you to find a spot where you can help out in the coming weeks whether through volunteering a couple hours, donating money or goods, or joining our advocacy efforts.
Happening this week: volunteers are needed for the staff coffee cart and two Earth Day events. In the coming weeks there are opportunities to attend two school funding advocacy events, donate to our yearbook fund and attend Restaurant Night at Kennedy School!

Join Oregon PTA’s monthly discussions to dive deep into school funding in the state.
John Rexford, chair of the state's Quality Education Commission will speak on the state of education in Oregon and advocacy efforts.
These virtual events are open to everyone (register here) and will include Q&A with the audience. For questions, please reach out to legislation@oregonpta.org.

♻️PLASTIC FILM DRIVE IN PARTNERSHIP WITH RIDWELL:
Scott Elementary is keeping Plastic Film from landfills with Ridwell this spring! As part of this limited-time drive, you can bring these types of Plastic Film to school between now and May 10th and Ridwell will make sure they stay out of landfills and are turned into new decking materials instead! Start collecting these items at home now.
Considering joining the Ridwell community? Curious about those little white boxes on your neighbors steps? You can also help Scott Elementary recycle our school’s Plastic Film for the entire ‘24/’25 school year if you sign up for a Ridwell membership by May 31st, 2024 using get.ridwell.com/Scott-PDX to join. If we sign up 10 or more new members by this date, we will be awarded monthly Plastic Film pickups for our school next year!

🗣️ADVOCACY CORNER:
Topic 1: School Climate and Student Safety:
We are planning a family listening session to hear about the experiences of students and caregivers, and to identify questions that need to be answered, concerns that need to be addressed, and areas where work could be done to improve the school climate. We would love for YOU to be a part of this effort! If you would like to participate in or attend the listening session, or if you’d like to work on these efforts as part of a PTA climate team, please email schoolclimate@somosscott.org."
The listening session will be focused around the following questions, although other perspectives and thoughts are encouraged. What are your concerns? What makes a safe and nurturing school climate? What are you going to do to help foster the school climate?

If you plan to volunteer at any time this school year, make sure you complete the background check right away. It can take up to 3 weeks to receive the approval email from PPS but will last for 3 years once completed.

Buenas tardes, familias de Scott.

♻️COLECCIÓN DE PELÍCULA DE PLÁSTICO EN ASOCIACIÓN CON RIDWELL:
¡Scott Elementary evitará que la película plástica llegue a los vertederos con Ridwell esta primavera! Como parte de esta campaña por tiempo limitado, puedes traer este tipo de Película plástica a la escuela desde ahora hasta el 10 de mayo y Ridwell se asegurará de que no acaben en los vertederos y, en su lugar, se conviertan en nuevos materiales para terrazas. Comienza a recolectar estos artículos en casa ahora.

Tema 1:Clima escolar y seguridad estudiantil:
Estamos planeando una sesión de escucha familiar para conocer las experiencias de los estudiantes y cuidadores, e identificar preguntas que deben responderse, inquietudes que deben abordarse y áreas donde se podría trabajar para mejorar el clima escolar. ¡Nos encantaría que USTED fuera parte de este esfuerzo! Si desea participar o asistir a la sesión de escucha, o si desea trabajar en estos esfuerzos como parte de un equipo climático de la PTA, envíe un correo electrónico clima escolar@somosscott.org".
La sesión de escucha se centrará en las siguientes preguntas, aunque se recomiendan otras perspectivas y pensamientos. ¿Cuáles son tus preocupaciones? ¿Qué hace que un clima escolar sea seguro y enriquecedor? ¿Qué vas a hacer para ayudar a fomentar el clima escolar?
