I found myself at a party, there were a lot of small anthro foxes and cats. Definitely different from bugs, but not too bad - except for the sounds. These little things were loud, so I wound up just napping in a dark closet-like room. Much better than... anywhere else in that place, really.
Eventually, no clue how long I'd been out (time is irrelevant in the party room, apparently), this dude comes in. Gorgeous skeleton, a bit taller than me, massive metallic wings and a very fluffy hoodie with magenta-grizzled black faux fur. Seemed pretty interesting, definitely a nice change from all those tiny little things outside.
I tried to stare at him, but he seemed a little startled at most, which was disappointing. He was also really quiet, and had a particular dislike of humans, at least whatever ones were after him, even if they gave him some pretty cool details they seem icky.
Naturally, I tried to fight him. It was pretty anticlimactic though, I'm. Not really used to people. Also, the skele was really good at defending himself, those metallic wings of his are really powerful, I did get a couple hits in but other than that... wow. I like this dude. I like him a lot. Bit of a pacifist, but still.
Turns out he also has a robotic bird that can fight for him, and an incredible amount of patience and general tolerance. I'm actually impressed by this guy. I think fighting him was a mistake, I don't know why but whatever human he was worried about before caught up somehow, and shot him with. Uh. Something (which failed to affect me), he collapsed and immediately looked kinda pathetic. I'm glad humans are so squishy though, I was able to delete that horrid creature pretty quickly. After that I just kinda... I just waited for him to feel better. Only took a few minutes.
I don't know why I felt guilty about murdering that human, they deserved it, it just felt weird. I did get to go see the skele's homeplace though, we started somewhere in a snowy forest then promptly went towards a battle against humans. I have no clue why. But, hey, I got to set some idiots on fire and see some more of the skele's fighting ability. He was really tired afterwards though, like the kind of tired where he passed out on the spot and had a nightmare. I'm not sure he's exactly built to handle all that, now that I think about it, but ehhh, not my problem.
Another bit of very quiet, very awkward waiting, and he finally woke up with a wing spasm, then offered to take me back to the camp to check on survivors - obviously I agreed, I need to know as much about this fool as I can. It was just a bunch of sad little tents, better than what I expected but still sad. And instead of wandering around on my own, I followed him silently (the perks of feline genetics). It took an entire conversation with a goat dude in another language for him to notice my presence, which I am awfully proud of. He apologized for just walking off, then suggested that I hang out in his tent while he finishes up his current plans - yes please - then promptly left me alone with that cot and some swords, with nothing but a warning to "Please be careful with the swords if you decide to touch them.." HA! As if I'd touch 'em, they're not mine and I can summon my own anyways.
And I kid you not, I just. Sat. In a corner. And played with a little candleflame I recently found out exists. It's very playful and very vocal. It was still out when Orchid came back, and in a panic I desummoned it. Why was I embarrassed? I don't know! Sure, this dude was pretty and really sweet, and I'd been all spooky the whole time he'd known me, and I felt childish and silly all of a sudden, but... yeah, I don't know. Anyways, we then went to the arena so I wouldn't accidentally set anything on fire and we sparred, which did start with him saying I could go first. Damn people pleaser.
I can't say this part was exactly notable, it didn't go much different than the first spar, but we did get a bit of an audience which was awfully exciting. I did get a pretty damaging hit in, too, but of course I wasn't just gonna kill hi. A specimen this interesting needs to live, after all! I did almost overheat him, though, which was a bit stupid on my end, but who cares? He was back up in a matter of seconds, attempted to use a gust of actual wind on me, and a few more pathetic attacks between the two of us later, I was... tired??? I don't like that feeling, whatever it was.
I did try to go home after that, but curiosity was absolutely slaughtering this cat, so I went straight back to his place and had him tell me about his backstory. I don't remember a good majority of what he said, but I do remember that he did not look great after listing off all that, whatever it was, so I didn't pry about that. Instead, I started drilling him about the living quarters, and then we went on a secret ambush when that got boring, a fun little killing spree! Orchid did get shot like a total idiot, but we came back and I just sat outside the tent while he rested, like a guard or something. Had to bring the little candleflame out again to entertain myself, but it wasn't playing in the grass for long before Orchid scared the absolute living daylight outta me, then he went back in the tent and scared me again by crying this time! Damn, dude, enough nightmares already! I did end up just pacing in my little spot though, and I guess he went to the medic or somethin' and finally got his arm taken care of, which was a relief. I don't know why I was so worried in the first place. And neither did he, like, he seemed genuinely confused, same but also try appreciating it???
Anyways, I tried to ask a little more about his lore, that obviously did not work, so we just went our separate ways - in the sense that I sat on the ground and ate candy while he flew off to do gods-know-what in the forest. I'm not going to lie, I'm actually kind of excited to see this weird dude again. Definitely has some info that could be interesting to learn, plus he's much too sweet for his own good, so I don't see any reason to dread his return.
