Side Quests (Should Do) (Bonus Activities)
Side Quests (Should Do) (Bonus Activities)
Side Quests are challenges you should do over the course of your time studying, they are completely optional. They will help you grow in your subject area, introduce you to resources that are helpful for studying on your own, and set a pace for you to move beyond what is expected for you at this grade level. Each "side quest" you complete earns you a set number of coins. (See the page discussing "The Market" in your guidebook.)
Side Quest #1: Constellation Comparison
One of the first things you realized after being transported to this new world were the many similarities and differences between it and Earth. So many things are like a slightly distorted mirror. They are similar, but ultimately very different.
The stars themselves are extremely interesting to you. With your knowledge of the constellations you can see in the night sky of Earth, you look up to see that these same constellations exist, but that they are slightly different. Stars are in similar groupings, but they've shifted slightly to make different shapes.
Practice: Choose (5) constellations you would find in the night sky on Earth. Label and draw them out in a physical drawing, or on online art tool. (You cannot just copy and paste pictures of them.)
Create (5) constellations for the world of The Academy that are similar, but different than these constellations on Earth. For example, maybe Orion "The Hunter" is Greg "The Magician." Draw these new constellations using physical or digital art tools next to their Earth constellation counterparts.
Be detailed, but your art skills don't have to be perfect. Effort and following the directions is all that matters. If you have creative ideas on how you want to do this side quest, feel free to ask!
To show extra effort, feel free to add info and history about the real and created constellations on the page where you created them.
Show Mastery: Turn-in this project with your (5) examples of Earth constellations and (5) examples of constellations from the world of The Academy.
What If I Don't Achieve Mastery?: If you don't meet the requirements, you'll be asked to continue until you complete it as described.
Side Quest #2: Practice Your Path
All students at the Academy must challenge themselves and each other when training in the class they choose to explore. In this side quest you are tasked with coming up with a quiz challenging other magicians, beastmasters, knights, rangers, and bards in the knowledge they must know to progress in their path.
Practice: NOTE: You can only work on this side quest during after-school practice on Thursdays.
Your teacher will give you a set of questions from a previous competition. You will use this set of questions to create a test on Quizizz following the guidelines set forth by your teacher.
Show Mastery: Turn-in your Quizizz featuring real questions to your teacher/coach. They will check to make sure you meet the number of questions required and that the formatting is correct.
What If I Don't Achieve Mastery?: If you don't meet the requirements, you'll be asked to continue until you complete it as described.
Side Quest #3: Vocabulary of the Ranger
Rangers at The Academy consistently split their time between the wilds of the land surrounding their school, their treetop scouting refuge known as The Arbor, and the well-maintained labs of The Academy itself. It is in these labs that Rangers do some of their most refined experiments, fusing both nature and science to advance human understanding. Understanding the methods used by Master Rangers will help you as you begin doing your own experiments.
