Rock Cycle and Plate Tectonics

Vocab: Uplift, Rift Zone, Core, Crust, Mantle, Convection, Lithosphere, Asthenosphere, Mesosphere

Day 1:  Take notes about Earth's Layers and Video.

Day 2: Watch MIT video on layers of the Earth.  Then create Earth Layer book with Descriptions using textbook and additional reading sources.  Then complete vocab cut n' paste vocab as HW for layers of the Earth (only). 

Day 3:  Read article and use quetions to discuss, and create timeline of Inge Leaman's work on discovering the center of the Earth.

Vocab: Weathering, Erosion, Deposition

Day 4:  Weathering, Erosion, and Deposition PPT and notes and video.

Day 5:  BrainPop Video, Graham Cracker lab to demonstrate Weathering and Erosion and Card Sort. 

OPTIONAL - Day 6:  Mini posters about weathering and erosion.  

Day 7:  Picture and video about Cleopatra's Needle in NYC.  Then demo Chemical Weathering using chalk and vinegar Lab.  Finally read about Chemical Weathering and complete a Venn Diagram to compare the physical and chemcial weathing as an exit ticket.

Day 14: Read about the Evidence of Plate Motion pg 129-135 with questions,  complete vocab cut n' paste.

Day 15: Video on Plate Tectonics,  Plate tectonics (Relate to Convection)  PPT and Notes.  

Day 16 : Plate Tectonics Inquiry Lab and C.E.R.

Day 17: BrainPop on Plate Tectonics, Read pages 143-147 in text book.  Demo plate tectonics using Oreos and complete Foldable.  

Day 18/19:  Plate Tectonic Lab Stations

Day 20:  Read about Plate tectonics and thier connection to Earthquakes and Volcanoes online, complete vocab cut n' paste. 

Day 21: Video on Mt. Everest, Read and complete cornell notes on Mountain Building, Earthquakes, and Volcanoes using textbook and other resources.
