6.3 Transmission and Distribution of Electricity
The components involved in the electrical power transmission and distribution system are:
Power station
Step-up transformer station
National Grid Network
Step-down transformer
Substation
Generators at power stations produce alternating current with a voltage of 11 kV or 25 kV.
Alternating current from the power stations is then transmitted to a step-up transformer station (Bn). Here, the voltage of the alternating current is increased to 132 kV, 275 kV or 500 kV using a step-up transformer.
