Properties of Water

Dissolve the shell of an egg leaving behind a "naked" egg using vinegar, an egg, and a clear jar! Then, using a glass and some water along with that same egg, discover the property of osmosis and watch it occur through the egg's membrane.

Use the property of capillary action to create a rainbow in a sequence of cups filled with colored water. All you need is 5 cups, 5 paper towels, water, a spoon, and food coloring.

Surface Tension with Glitter and Soap

Find out more about waters surface tension in this experiment. You will need a bowl, water, glitter, and dish soap.

Simulate the water cycle right in your house on a sunny day! This experiment requires a gallon plastic bag, water, optional blue food dye, and a window or a hairdryer.

Cell Functions

All living things are made up of tiny machines called cells. These cells are the basic building block of life! As humans, our bodies are made of various types of cells that make up the different parts of the body such as the brain, bones, organs, muscles, and even our skin!

Types of Cells

Cells come in many different types of forms. Each one performs a different function and is located in different places of the body. In the body, we have many different types of cells. Our muscles are made of muscle cells while our brain is connected by nerve cells!

Learn more about the different types of cells HERE!

Parts of a Cell

Cells have many small little machines inside of them that do their part. Without them, the cell can not function properly. The specialized structures in a cell are called organelles.

Water Cycle

The water cycle is the continuous cycle of water throughout the earth's oceans, the atmosphere, and the land.

  • This animation created by NASA is a great visual demonstrating the entire water cycle. Use the button at the top labeled "Water Cycle" to find more articles and in depth descriptions of the water cycle.

Properties of Water

There are 7 basic properties of water, including polarity, cohesion, adhesion, surface tension, high specific heat, and evaporative cooling.

  • Here's a great YouTube video on the 7 basic properties of water.

  • Take a look at this simulation to better understand surface tension and cohesive forces.

  • Capillary action occurs due to cohesion, adhesion, and surface tension. Read through the introduction of this article to better understand this concept!
