Walking Distance is a collective experience, an opportunity to bridge the distance between us. It is a participative, inclusive, slightly surreal, poetic art installation which can be placed anywhere and which will make people stop, reflect, meet and connect.
Here’s how it works: You have a unit of two treadmills placed opposite each other, they suggest an impossible encounter. People are invited to walk on the treadmills towards each other for seven minutes -either with us, or with someone else. Face to face. There’s only one rule: no talking. This work creates a silent encounter, where presence itself becomes dialogue.
Walking Distance comes in different formats. There are multiple one-to-one units and there is an XLversion with 12 treadmills shown together in one art installation
We are living in a fast world where true connection is often lost and social contact (ties) have become more fragile. So the question is how to connect with the other in an individualistic society? And the answer is Walking Distance!
As you will be walking opposite and towards each other, looking the other in the eye, you will have the chance to truly connect with all kind of people or even just with yourself and your surroundings,
The performance is a reflection of life itself: We are always moving -physically, socially, emotionally-but we don’t always know where we’re going. We never truly arrive. We are always becoming. This piece invites us to pause—not to escape life, but to become more aware of it. A moment to simply be, together.
We see performance as an act of co-creation. The power of Walking Distance lies in participation—anyone, regardless of age, background, social status or identity, can join and become part of the work. Together, we give movement meaning.
We are all walking to nowhere, all we have is here and now, so we invite you to step on the treadmill, into the moment — move without moving, meet without speaking, and experience connection in motion. Let us redefine distance together.
