Have you ever wondered why the U.S. had a Civil War, but now it seems unthinkable that Georgia might invade Florida? Or why the U.S. supported Central American dictators but attacked Middle Eastern countries to “spread democracy”? Or how the U.S. transformed from a backwater wilderness to a global superpower? Or how the country changed when women gained the right to vote?
These are the questions we are going to answer this year. History helps us understand the world, and by studying it we can see where we’ve come from, what has worked, and how we got to where we are today. We’re going to be studying U.S. History from the colonial period to the present, and in the process you will see why History is one of the most exciting subjects you can study.
