Attainment : analysis of individual data for each participant
A measure of a child's achievement in school which compares every child to a standardized expectation for their age level, regardless of individual starting points.
The Data Centre calculates :
average for each student in all subjects
overall average (>60%, >50% and <50%)
boys' overall average (>60%, >50% and <50%)
girls' overall average (>60%, >50% and <50%)
SEND overall average (>60%, >50% and <50%)
different groups overall average (>60%, >50% and <50%)
average for new students (>60%, >50% and <50%)
overall average by grade (>60%, >50% and <50%)
overall average by grade and gender (>60%, >50% and <50%) etc.
Progress : cohort and student
By cohort:
To assess the progress of a cohort, we analyse and compare the results of the cohort at the end of the school year (attainment N) with the results of the same cohort the previous year (attainment N-1).
We therefore analyse the starting level and the current level. The evolution (positive or negative) takes into account the % of students above 50 (>50%) as well as the % of students above 60 (>60%).
Student progress:
Our framework does not evaluate a student as making acceptable, good or better progress. Instead, it refers to a student making expected/better than expected/less than expected progress.
The framework then asks us to look at the proportions of a cohort of students who make expected/better than expected progress, to arrive at a judgment of acceptable, good or better (e.g. if 51% of students in a grade make better than expected progress, that grade has made good progress).
Our judgements :
