Mother tongue books!

The PYP Library is always on the lookout for new books in languages other than English or Swedish.

The Library is always happy for donations! We are currently looking to expand our mothertongue section for all age groups in PYP. If you have any exciting books at home that you would like to donate, please bring them past the PYP library. Our opening hours can be found here!

Winter fair in the Library!

On Saturday the Library had a guess the book for PYP and MYP students at the winter fair!

The correct answers for the books were Ariel, the little Mermaid and Percy Jackson, The lightning Thief. As there were several people who guessed the correct titles, our PYP coordinator and our MYP principal drew the lucky winners of our competition. The winning students will be informed in their class and receive their rewards the coming week.

Thank you to everyone who came, bought books and participated in the quiz. Thank you for all the interesting talks with students and parents.

The PYP library has a new reading corner!

Students can listen to a story while the pictures from the book are shown on the screen with a document camera. This makes it possible for everyone to get involved and follow along. The librarians can close the curtains to keep distractions out.

Book Sessions in PYP

The PYP Library uses modern technology in the book sessions. The book is held under projector that transmits the image onto a large TV Screen. This allows students to have a good view of all the pages and the librarian can point out things for students.

Here we can see Ms. Sheila reading "Harriet Gets Carried Away" by Jessie Sima to one of the PYP classes.

The book is about imagination and creativity, something the library and school always encourage.

Winter Fair in the PYP Campus

At the 2017 winter fair, the library hosted a "book in a jar" quiz where students had the chance to win a beautiful copy of Cornelia Funke´s Dragon Rider. Students had to guess the full title of the shredded book in the jar. The book used was an old, broken copy of Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone (/Philosophers Stone).

Old books, that had to be taken out of the library collection due to being old, never read or simply had to be replaced because of damage were given away for free to students and parents. We strive hard to not waste the books but rather give them a second chance, such as members of community taking them home.

HAPPY READING!

Poetry at PYP Campus Library

Poetry is a form of expression. For each library session, students get to hear a poetry chosen by our library assistants. Some poetry lead to complex discussions, while others carry fun rhymes, riddles, and songs.

We had some sing-along sessions with some of the classes. "Five Little Speckled Frogs" was a hit. Check out the YouTube video we have for this song. While you're at it, why not sing-along yourself. These speckled frogs sure know how to have fun!

Another poem we are featuring this month is "Refugees" by Brian Bilston. This poem describes some emotions and thoughts regarding refugees. Do not be discouraged when you first read it. Why not try Mr. Bilston's suggestion? Like our students, you might be surprised.

Give POETRY a go, and let us know what you think about these poems through our interactive NOTICE BOARD. What comes to mind when you think of poetry? Do you have other poems you can recommend?

We can't wait to hear from you. Until next time!
