Learning intention – We are examining old objects to learn about the past.
Success criteria – We can name past and present writing tools and state how they work.
In the past, students wrote on slate boards. They used a pencil made of slate.
Students also used pen and ink. They dipped their pen into an ink pot.
Ink is like runny paint.

Slate is a rock. A slate board and a slate pencil is made of rock (slate).
From the 1940s, rubber stamps were used at school..
There were stamps of maps, numbers and clock faces.
Teachers stamped maps into students' books.
The students traced around the outline.
From the 1960s plastic map stencils were also used.
Students traced around the edge of the stencil.

What is similar or different to doing mapping today?
An ink pad can be re-inked when it dries out.
