Each class will have a limited number of students to help maintain social distancing and safety precautions.
For all classes, students are required to have their hair up and out of their faces.

Shoes & undergarments required for the dance recital will be determined when the costume is chosen.
Ages 3 & 4
Explore movement through basic elements of dance including body awareness, patterning, shapes, and timing in a positive, energetic environment! Students will activate their imagination while developing spatial awareness, motor skills and social skills. Also some ballet, jazz, & tumbling (mat work) foundations will be introduced. Class Attire

Ages 5-7
Designed for students who are ready for more ballet technique but still want to have a class full of imagination and fun. Barre work will be introduced with the foundations and basic technique of ballet. Students will learn center floor sequences and step combinations. They will also learn choreography and develop performance skills which boost self-confidence. Class Attire
Ages 5-7
Students will learn jazz technique and work on flexibility, isolations, across the floor progressions and choreography. They will also explore rhythm and groove through fun, upbeat music. They will strengthen muscles with floorwork such as shoot-outs and other breakdancing movements. Class Attire

This is an introduction to acrobatics and tumbling class. Students learn proper warm ups and stretching, as well as acro technique, tricks and mat work. Working towards: forward/backward rolls, bridges, back bends & cartwheels. Class Attire
Ages 7+
Students will learn basic jazz technique and choreography to develop coordination, rhythm, flexibility, and facial expressions. They will work center floor and across the floor progressions. Leaps, turns, and jumps will be practiced as well.

Lyrical is a combination of ballet and jazz dance that uses music with lyrics to inspire the movements of the dance. This style focuses on strong emotion. It is also a very precise dance with the dancer’s movements portraying the emotion and story of the song. Class Attire
Ages 7+
These classes will focus on basic acrobatic skills and technique to increase flexibility, strength, balance, coordination, endurance, timing, body awareness, and confidence. Tricks include: cartwheels, walkovers, handstands, front/back limbers, etc. Students will practice exercise drills and stretch routines. Class placement is based more on skill levels than age.

Ages 7+
Explore rhythms through body, freezes and freestyle in an upbeat, high-energy environment. Develop musicality, balance, and individual groove! Learn dance combinations involving sharp, quick movements, body isolations, fun footwork, and more!
Breakdance is a style of dancing that incorporates coordination, acrobatics, and intricate body movements. Strength exercises and drills will be explored to build the muscle and coordination for hip hop / breakdance tricks.
Ages 7+
Students are taught a variety of cheer techniques and forms, including jumps, lifts, and stunts. The class will incorporate a mix of jazz and hip-hop choreography, along with stretching. Poms will be used.
Class Attire
Ages 7+
There are limited time slots available for private classes and they are first come, first serve. Private classes can be solos (one student), duets (two students), or even a small group of family members for a family dance. Styles for these classes can be determined by the students with guidance from the teacher.

Ages 10+
Contemporary dance allows students to push the boundaries of traditional dance forms and focus on big movement and experimentation. Contemporary is powerful and hard-hitting compared to Lyrical, which is soft and smooth.
Class Attire.
Ages 12+
Students will experience a mix of dance styles, along with stretching and strengthening exercises in the beginning; Then they will take focus on styles of preference as the season goes on.

Adult
Come feel yourself and express your radiant energy. Learn seductive choreography inspired by jazz, hip hop, and burlesque dance styles. Music will be fun and spicy; mood lighting will be set for a tantalizing vibe! This is an open level dance class. No experience required.
*Wear whatever makes you feel comfortable and can easily move in.
*Bring a water bottle for hydration.
All Ages Welcome
Practice dates & details provided closer to parade dates.
SDS is invited to participate in the Sherburne Pageant of Bands & Hamilton 4th of July parade. On the float: Participants are welcome to ride on the float & help gently toss candy & promotional items. Parents, guardians, & siblings are also invited to join us on the float or walking behind. Dancers on the road: Dancers ages 7+ are welcome to learn a routine for the parade(s). This is a great way to be involved with SSD and our communities. Participating in these events also shows your support for our dancers, our studio, and it's a healthy activity for all!
We have also performed during the Earlville Tree Lighting event.
Participation Requirements:
Must carry a positive attitude & show enthusiasm!
Represent Schmitt Sisters Dance studio in a positive way.
Recitals are typically held at the Sherburne-Earlville MS/HS Auditorium.
