"Every day of class Tyler shows up coffee-in-hand, enthusiastic and prepared to teach the class. Tyler runs a great class discussion and I recommend him to any Econ student." - Student comment on Rate My Professor
There is nothing quite like sharing economics with undergraduates. All too often economics is perceived to belong in old tomes. It is always a good day when I get to see my students make connections between our class and the world in which they live.
In the classroom, I begin from the premise that if I'm not excited about the material, its doubtful my students will be. I find students respond to my enthusiasm with increased participation and motivation. I regularly bring my own research on informality and forecasting into my classes.
I am a strong advocate for student research, and St. Thomas has a variety of opportunities to encourage undergraduate student research. I have mentored independent student research as part of student grants and for credit, utilized undergraduate research assistants, and co-authored with students. While I'm particularly intrigued by topics in development and forecasting, I'm always open to helping students research what they are passionate about. If you're a student at St. Thomas considering doing independent research, its never too early to have a conversation with me about it!
