Schaghticoke Vision Statement

In this assignment, you'll explore how local school districts define their purpose and values by researching their mission statements. You'll investigate several districts in our area, analyze what makes each unique, and identify elements that resonate with you.

Using what you discover, along with your ideas from our class discussions about belonging and school culture, you'll craft three different draft mission statements for SMS 2.0. Each draft should capture a different vision for what our school could become—think about the type of students we want to develop, what makes our school special, and the ultimate goals we have for our graduates.

This research will help you understand how schools communicate their core values and prepare you to contribute meaningfully to reimagining SMS's future direction.

Examples of School Mission / Vision Statements

Students’ needs and interests are met through a wide range of school and program choices that promote diversity and broaden achievement. All students are taught by exemplary educators in nurturing, safe, and attractive schools.  Students read on grade level by end of grade 3 and leave 8th grade equipped to do rigorous high school work and graduate from high school college and career ready.

Stamford Public School District

SPS has a total of 13 elementary schools, five middle schools and three high schools. SPS is proud that our district is as rich in diversity as it is in talent. We have students from many cultural backgrounds and geographic locations—as demonstrated by the more than 65 different languages spoken in the homes of our families.  SPS offers our students a learning experience rich in cultural diversity and reflective of the global society in which they will work and live.
