The Quilt Show at Sun City Grand took place on March 9, 2019 in conjunction with the community's Spring Arts and Crafts Festival. It was a huge success due to the efforts of the dozens of volunteers.
Hospitality
Thanks to Connie Bollard and Charlene Wier and their committees for providing food and beverages for us both Friday night and all day Saturday. It was great to have that room for taking breaks and the food was very much appreciated. Special thanks to Paula Forster for arranging for us to have the Mediterranean Room. It was a life-saver to have a separate place to stash stuff, to take a break, for volunteer check-in, and Friday night supper. Also, the Sago room worked out well for storing the rolling chairs from the Stitchers Room.
Admissions/Greeters:
Thanks to Sandy Klein for organizing and scheduling all the Greeters in two locations. Your committee's record-keeping and headcounts will be very important to our future direction. Sandy, thanks for checking about the various emergency phone numbers. Aren't we glad we didn't have to use them! Your group provided such a nice, warm introduction to our visitors on Saturday.
Data:
Thanks to the members of the Data Committee who put in many, unseen hours of data entry to enter and proofread the quilt and entrant information. Then we re-opened the entry time and had to double our efforts with only a week to work within. Special thanks to Anita Craig for designing and redesigning the labels then merging, printing and trimming each one.
Layout:
Thanks to Doris Nolan and her committee for the many, many hours of preparation and meticulously planning the layout. Thanks for discovering that we could fit more quilts than we had originally planned for. And just when we had all the layout set, we got more curve balls pitched. You handled all the changes with grace and enthusiasm that was astonishing. Your artistic touches and constant attention to the details of the show made it the success that it was.
Opportunity Quilt/Caring Quilts:
Thanks to Diana Joy for sharing so many beautiful Caring Quilts. Thanks to Sue Todd and her volunteers for selling tickets for the Opportunity Quilts and putting up with all the movement of their operations.
Photography
Thanks to Chris Barberi and Heidi Winterstein for taking such beautiful photos of the quilts and the setup of the room. Looking at all those pictures gives us great memories of how it all looked and felt. Thanks to Sue Dufresne who posted a bunch of photos on the internet showing all her friends what we accomplished
Publicity/Signage:
I can't begin to thank Beth Moran for all her diligent work both on the Data Committee and by stepping into the Publicity role at the last moment. She created beautiful signs that clearly conveyed our needed messages. Even the directional signs were exactly what was needed, displaying both clarity and purpose. She took the initiative to borrow stands for some of the exterior signs and came to place them before the show and remove them after the show. Thanks also to Susan Hobbs who delivered poster and bookmarks to neighboring quilt groups and quilt shops.
Quilt Check-In/Out
Thanks to Linda Cotton and her committee for coming twice to help out: on Friday they quickly and carefully checked in all the quilts and passed them on to the Setup Committee in a very organized manner. Even when we added new responsibilities to their committee to check in and out the personal quilt stands and ladders, they handled that task with ease and no complaints. Then on Saturday after the show, they reappeared with procedures all setup to return the quilts to their proper owners. A quick shout out to Cathy White who got the ball rolling with this committee the ball rolling by defining the initial forms and procedures. We tweaked some of that original work to fit the changing circumstances and locals.
Quilt Sheets:
Thanks to Terrie Ward and Carolyn Gaydos who washed and ironed all the quilt sheets. Special thanks to Carolyn who reworked the hems on the new sheets to better fit the quilt racks.
Set-up
Thanks to Susan Hobbs and her army of volunteers for the setup of the quilt racks and the hanging of the quilts. They spent hours practicing and it showed. On Friday night they were so far ahead of schedule that most quilts were hung and the volunteers got to leave by 7:30 instead of 10 pm like we had planned. These same tireless workers returned on Saturday at 2 pm to disassemble the racks, and fold and deliver the quilts to the Check-In committee. They set a land speed record for taking down the quilt show by accomplishing all their work within 30 minutes, well ahead of what we had planned for. Despite the number of people involved at one time all the racks got into their correct locations and all the quilts were hung and no cross words were heard. Special thanks to all those who brought/used their steamers to help take the wrinkles out of the quilt sheets.
Transportation
Thanks to Linda Pederson for taking over the responsibilities of the Transportation committee from Pat Moulton. We wish Pat a speedy and complete recovery.
White Gloves
Thanks to Jo Bone and her great group of White Glove ladies. They were wonderful ambassadors for our club at the same time they were helping our visitors to safely enjoy the quilts. Many of them worked more than one "shift" and we all appreciated their efforts. Special thanks to Alicia Sterna and Ann Petersen for being on their feet all day at the show to fill in and provide guidance to the the white-gloved volunteers.
Steering Committee
Thanks to all who attended the many Steering Committee meetings. In addition to their own committee's plans, they spent the time to help guide the entire project to its successful outcome.
Longarm Demo
Thanks to Chris Schnier, Judy Bergen, and Sandy Gallo Lee and all their assistants who spent the entire day on Saturday running the longarm machine and completing two Caring Quilts. Our visitors were impressed with our machine and your mastery of it.
Quilting Director
Thanks to Kris Minnick for running interference and stepping up to do anything and everything that she could to make the show a success.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
And last but not least, thanks to all the Quilters who loaned their beautiful works of art for us to display. We couldn't have done it without you. You and your quilts were the stars of the show. The variety of styles and sizes amazed and delighted all of our visitors. Hats off to all of you for helping us pull it off.
