We've made a short video (about 12 minutes long ) to demonstrate how to load your quilt onto Maggie (our longarm machine) using the club's zippers. If you have any questions about the process, please email us.
1. Cut three 4-inch wide strips about 108” long.
Or sew together enough 4” fabric strips (like making binding) to measure 108” long.
2. Carefully press the strips in half lengthwise, wrong sides together.
3. Zig zag entire 108” leader to zipper tape.
Sew leader to back side of zipper tape: w/z tape instruction words should be visible on flip side.
Run your sewing machine foot against the zipper teeth to make a straight sewing line.
Catch the raw edge of the leader under the zig zag stitch.
4. Using a Sharpie, carefully draw a straight line 1/2” down from the folded edge of the leader.
Mark your middles from the zipper tape to the edge of the leader.
If you are interested in learning to use the Longarm Quilting Machine, you need to follow these steps:
1. Attend an Introductory Longarm Training Class. The charge for this class is $5. To do this, you need to go to the Class Schedule Page of GrandSitchers.Org. Click on the date of the class you wish to enroll in or click on the class title "Q: Introductory TRAINING CLASS--HQ Longarm" for a description. Pay for the class online or, to pay in person, come into the Stitchers Room within 2 days of signing up online.
2. Additional practice sessions are required for you to become certified to use the machine. These additional sessions will be described at the Introductory Longarm Training Class.
3. Certification involves demonstrating to an instructor that you can follow the checklist to set up the Longarm, begin & complete a project, trouble shoot, and return everything to its proper area.
