Monte Veritá, Ascona, Switzerland | Hosted by ETH Zürich
In collaboration with Congressi Stefano Franscini and ETH Zurich, the Social Brain Sciences Lab at ETH Zürich hosted us for a biannual Aesthetics conference: Arts Engagement and Aesthetic Experience – Bridging the Gap between Arts + Science held between September 28th to October 2nd, 2025 at Monte Verità, Ascona, Switzerland.
Abstract - Scenic Route Studios
What if innovation began not with a breakthrough, but with a deep breath? We believe that FreshAIR (Aesthetic, Interdisciplinary, Regenerative) might reinvigorate how we build towards the future. Our presentation explores new frameworks for innovation at the crossroads of behavioral design, ecological systems thinking, and creative strategy, rooted in aesthetic, poetic, and behavioral inquiry.
Cecelia Schoening holds a B.A. in Cognitive Science from Yale University, and brings a decade of experience in tech, design, and sustainable innovation across public, private, and creative sectors. She founded Scenic Route Studios in 2022 to integrate her breadth of experience, operating both as a creative agency and experimental R&D lab. Scenic bridges the analytical and the poetic, creating actionable insight through participatory research, nature-based solutions, aesthetic engagement, creative partnerships, and north star value alignment — helping her clients organize around regenerative futures for people + planet.
We are excited to debut FreshAIR as a paradigm shift for innovation. Our strategy leverages mindfulness, biophilic design, and aesthetic engagement to identify patterns of opportunity across experience ecosystems. Grounded in both behavioral science and multidisciplinary arts practice, our unique model invites slowness, sensory immersion, and narrative intelligence as tools for systems adaptation.
Drawing from industry case studies and experience across several creative domains, our approach proposes art not merely as expression, but as a strategic and somatic infrastructure for ecodiplomacy — a means of building bridges between disciplines, cultures, and ways of knowing. In so doing, we reframe innovation itself as a living, breathing process of relational design.

East End Ballroom, 4715 E 5th St, Austin, TX 78702
In a state of mindfulness, we become one with the sun, the earth and the sky.
Join us for the debut of “flowers in my wake,” a bold series weaving poetry, photography and sonic memories into inventive mixed media work. Surrealism is beauty made bizarre—waxing nostalgic on velvet and organza remixed with spray paint, faraday fabric and vintage mirrors. Like a jazz savant, she riffs on reality, lost in dreams while wide awake.
In collaboration with Shades of Blue, our Jazz Lounge and Gallery will feature salon-style conversations, nostalgic soundscapes and electric live performances.
About the artist:
As a nature-based artist, my practice is rooted in field research and contemplation of the living world. Through my art, poetry and dreamlike designs, I imagine new ways of bridging our divides and seeing the earth with kindred eyes. Transcending traditions of photography, I use my lens to reimagine reality with a painterly gaze, capturing symphonies of light and color from the world around me. In the age of information, our attention is sacred—my work is a mindful oasis that invites you to pause, reflect and reimagine your own ways of seeing.
Special thanks to East End Ballroom, Shades of Blue, Mitsine Floral for their partnership, and Almost Real Things for hosting the tour.

Out of Body features alternative takes on representing the human body, featuring 13 emerging artists from Central Texas. The works interrogate themes of transformation and introspection, exploring what it means to be in a body. Living in a body is both deeply personal while also being a universal experience. By incorporating unique symbolism and using unconventional materials or points of view, these artists examine their relationship with perception, spirituality, and the Self. “What’s the difference between my art and my life, my “self” and others? What happens when those kinds of boundaries are blurred?” —Jessamyn Plotts
Participating artists include: Casey Alfstad, Lisa Alley, Tiggy Augery, Katie Chance, Erin Freeman, Clara Griffith, Madeline Hernandez, Mary Helen McNally, Cecelia Parker, Jessamyn Plotts, Erin Power, Maddy Sneep, and Linda Wandt.

“in languages that aren’t always sound” 2025
nature-based new media, an immersive-inclusive experience using cymatics to visualize rnb + afrobeats
the highest honor as an artist is to feel like you’re channeling something greater than yourself. for my third collaboration with @kanvasxvogue, i had the honor of creating this work to satisfy our ADA grant — bringing this experience to life, and tapping into the expansive possibility of creative expression
to satisfy the grant, we asked the question, how might we creatively engage the Deaf + Hard of Hearing (HoH) community, for a SXSW event centered around music?
i’ve long been fascinated by synesthesia and neuroplasticity, how our brain can commingle the senses for a rich + vivid experience. i often take photos while listening to music which helps me “get into a groove,” tuning into patterns that become shapes + storylines
the polyrhythms of afrobeats were a perfect playground for these synced visuals. grateful for all the beautiful people who came out to vibe with us — right back atcha, from austin with love 🌹✨
special thanks to the K&V team @kodilinno @sirdom_ @tiatangs @gabrielnambila; stacey_hoyt and the team at @kmfaclassical who hosted us in the beautiful draylen mason music studio; and @topher_sipes and @rodellwarner for making me curious about new media + using technology to amplify nature’s intelligence
This Activation is an immersive experience blending art, fashion, music, and technology, featuring a tech exhibit highlighting Black-owned startups, a curated art show, and a runway of tech-enhanced fashion.
With live performances, sounds from across the diaspora, and interactive cultural design elements, this event redefines creativity at the intersection of innovation and culture.

This year’s theme, Ecos del pasado / Echoes of the Past, is inspired by the beauty and intricacies of nostalgia — reflecting diverse range of perspectives, techniques, and creative expressions. From your favorite childhood show, a special moment shared with a loved one, a dish, a specific smell, a trip, a place, a restaurant that does not exist any more, or even a natural landscape, we encourage you to explore and express the unique ways nostalgia manifests in your own life or in the lives of those around you. What memories, moments, or feelings does nostalgia evoke for you?
Nostalgia allows us to reconnect with who we once were, offering both reflection and renewal. In your art, we hope you will capture the beauty of this emotional tapestry—inviting others to relive the echoes of their pasts, as they look forward to the future.

Excited to be a featured artist and designer for this year's festival! Slow fashion is a holistic movement that embodies a way of life focused on sustainability, ethical practices, and conscious consumption. It’s not just about making mindful purchasing decisions; it’s about caring for the garments we already own and rejecting the exploitation and environmental degradation caused by rampant consumerism. Slow fashion encourages us to cherish quality over quantity, understand the true value and impact of our clothing, and build a community where we can rely on each other rather than on big corporations focused solely on profits. By embracing slow fashion, we commit to a lifestyle that values fairness, creativity, and responsibility, fostering a more sustainable and equitable fashion industry — and world — for all.

“The Golden Age of November” is the debut of my moodscape photography for the 20th Annual Austin Studio Tour, and sharing the bittersweet beauties I captured in my solitude, from pandemic to present.
In our modern society, we’ve reached a point of information overload – we’re literally missing the forest for the trees. By interrupting the precision of a digital camera, I cut through the noise to reveal the mood and emotion of a scene as I experience it firsthand. With these ‘moodscapes’ I imagine how seeing the world with less detail might empower us to have a more grounded, heart-centered experience. These bittersweet beauties bring the viewer into serene moments in nature, letting those moments & memories ripple through time.
Inspired by Buddhist philosophy, Japanese aesthetics, and my own meanderings and meditations — this body of work taps into the healing power of the ephemeral. Fleeting beauties might just pass us by, but reward us greatly when we make the choice to be in the present, in communion with the natural world. Here’s to sharing the moment. ✨
