Death's Acre by Dr. Bill Bass & Jon Jefferson
This book is definitely required reading for any Forensic Science teacher.
I use this book in class with my students. I have enough books to check a book out to each student (acquired through a combination of grants like Donorschoose.org and buying used books).
I assign reading questions - organized into booklets- to help guide students.
My reading questions are available here. Answer keys are included.

Books about The Green River Killer
Green River, Running Red by Ann Rule
Excellent book. Ann Rule chronicles the crimes and capture of the Green River Killer. His victims were mainly prostitutes. Ann Rule paints a picture of each victim as someone's daughter, mother, or sister- making the reader see each victim as a whole person, not just their profession. Her details on the crime and capture are excellent.
Chasing the Devil by Dave Reichert
Dave Reichert was on the Green River task force and was a key player in his capture. This gives him a unique perspective on the crimes and the manhunt.
Both Chasing the Devil and Green River, Running Red are excellent books. I recommend reading both of them to develop a full picture of the crimes, victims and capture of the Green River Killer.
The Riverman by Robert D. Keppel, PhD
Green River Serial Killer: Biography of an Unsuspecting Wife by Pennie Morehead
I will admit that I did not believe (before reading this book) that someone could be married to a serial killer and not suspect something! After reading this book, I have a lot more insight into Gary Ridgeway's third wife. She endured a few hardships in her years before meeting and marrying Gary Ridgeway. I can see now how it's possible that, because of previous experiences in her life, she did not suspect that Gary Ridgeway was even visiting prostitutes - let alone killing them!
