These recipes were adapted from a vampire website (for people that want to be vampires but think real blood is gross). I have tweaked them to be as close to the consistency of real blood as possible when dripped.
Store fake blood in the refrigerator when not in use. The corn syrup makes it an excellent solution for growing bacteria and fungus. If you don't refrigerate it, the smell will be pretty overwhelming, and it gets super gross really quickly.
This fake blood is edible if you make it at home using sterile equipment. It is NOT edible if made at school during lab (unless you're using food-grade materials and containers). The equipment we use is not clean enough. Due to the very, very high sugar content, I really don't recommend eating it anyway.
These recipes are available as a free download from my TPT Store.
**All these STAIN clothing! Please be careful mixing!
Realistic Chocolate Blood

7 drops red food color
1-2 drops green food color.
Put the dry ingredients -cocoa and cornstarch - into the container. Add water slowly, a little at a time. Mix really well. Mix cocoa & corn starch completely into the warm water before adding other ingredients. Add other ingredients, blend well. Wait 5 min for it to settle.

*Recipe 2 is a little more watery. I recommend this recipe if you are going to put the blood into a spray bottle for high velocity blood spatter.
The best containers are plastic containers with lids that screw on tightly. Someone ALWAYS drops their blood. Glass containers break, and other staff members will think there was a terrible accident. If you use containers with lids that don't screw on tightly, someone will drop it or pick it up by the lid, and there will be fake blood everywhere.
I send all school emails and ask everyone to save this type of container for me. I find that Talenti gelato containers are the best. Ask people to wash them by hand instead of the dishwasher though - they warp in the dishwasher, and you really need them to sit flat for mixing blood. Usually everyone is happy to eat ice cream in the name of science for me!
