1951-2025
We are saddened to report on the recent passing of cherished Sun City Anthem resident Ira Adler.
Born in Brooklyn, NY on November 19, 1951, Ira was raised in Wantagh, Long Island. Other than attending college in New Jersey, he continued to live on Long Island throughout his childhood and working years. During that time, he scuba dove throughout the world, photographing the sea creatures he encountered. Many of those beautiful photos adorn the walls of his home. He also ran marathons, flew Cessna planes, golfed and biked. He enjoyed playing pool and poker.
Ira retired in 2012 after a 30-year career with the Federal Reserve Bank of New York. Over the years, he served as a Federal Reserve Officer in two key policy areas: Bank Supervision and Research.
Because of the Federal Reserve’s location near the World Trade Center, Ira and many of his colleagues were victims of the 9/11 attacks, resulting in significant medical conditions that were ultimately terminal.
During the course of his career, Ira played an important role in the financial crisis of 2007-2009 and worked with a number of foreign central banks to coordinate on supervisory issues. His supervision of the Research Group required the management of staff responsible for economic research and analysis of economic data.
In the summer of 2013, Ira and his wife Willis relocated from New York to Sun City Anthem, where he immediately demonstrated his zest for life via membership in many clubs, including: Hiking; Pickleball; Current Events; Democratic; Financial; Poker; and Golf.
But just being a member was not enough for Ira, so he began to take leadership positions within the community. serving as Vice President of the Financial Club and joining the SCA Finance Committee. In addition, he was a member of the Community Lifestyle Committee for six years, stepping down as Vice Chair due to his health issues.
Ira’s commitment to “giving back” in the form of volunteerism extended to the broader Las Vegas community as well, first at St. Rose Hospital and then at the Jewish Family Service Agency.
Whenever possible, Ira and Willis traveled the world, including Africa; Southeast Asia; The Galapagos; Eastern Europe; Australia; New Zealand; Iceland and the Canadian Rockies.
Throughout his extended illness, Ira remained involved with his friends and the SCA community, participating in as many activities as his health would allow. He passed away on December 7, 2025, at the age of 74. He is survived by his wife, Willis, son Matthew, daughter-in-law Kaitlin. and grandchildren Jude and Nomi, as well as stepsons Ethan and Brian. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Nancy.
