Frequently Asked Questions:
If your question or issue has not been addressed in this section, feel free to contact us at sbuapsaundergradlc@gmail.com!
1) Who can attend chapter meetings?
Anyone! We welcome all interested, including non-undergraduates such as graduate students, post docs, faculty, etc.
2) How can I become an active member?
Active membership is open only to any all currently enrolled undergraduate students at Stony Brook University. Members will be recognized as “an active chapter member” after attending at three GBMs in a single semester. In meeting this criterion, they are eligible to run for officer positions.
3) Do I need previous research / medical experience in order to join?
No, you don’t need any prior research experience to join our chapter. Our mission is for our members to learn, above all else, about the physician scientists pathway whether or not you see yourself pursuing the track.
4) When are chapter meetings?
We hold biweekly meetings during the semesters. Check the subtab under this FAQ to see our dates for the Fall 2025, as well as what each meeting will consist of!
5) Will the chapter meetings be recorded if I can't attend?
No. All of our meetings will be in person and are not recorded. The slides following the chapter meetings will be posted on our website and can be found under the "Resources" tab.
6) How can I become an E-Board member?
We are not currently looking to fill core executive-board positions. We will send announcements to active members when we are looking to fill any new roles or hold elections, which will be this upcoming 2026 spring semester.
7) Where can I learn more about APSA and get involved outside of SBU?
You can learn more about APSA's national and regional chapters and look for events and membership opportunities here: https://www.physicianscientists.org/
