AVID is an national organization with a mission to close the achievement gap by preparing students for college readiness using a cohort-based model and a 4-year elective class.
We value the AVID College Readiness System at San Benito High School because we believe AVID strategies are effective in ensuring that students have support for and access to challenging curriculum in order to prepare them for college and for careers.
The AVID Elective is a class that helps students prepare for the rigors of college. Students apply for and interview to be a part of the AVID Elective. The AVID Elective class is designed for students who have the desire to continue their post secondary education who need extra support through the AVID course.
Our AVID department is very excited to see our students back on campus face to face.

Emilie Horn
Emilie is a senior who wants to work in the fashion industry. She has already submitted her initial application to FIDM (Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising) and is working on submitting her portfolio. What impressed me most about Emilie is her initiative to get going on this so early in the year, and how she has used her AVID training to develop a positive relationship with her admissions rep that is proving to be extremely productive.
SBHS AVID Scholar Athletes
Your community will thrive only if students feel safe. As with your face-to-face classroom, be sure to set up clear protocols and expectations at the start of your online experience.
The Heart and Brain Feedback protocol is one great example. In addition to this strategy, consider getting input from your students, so they have a voice in designing this. Ownership can lead to more buy-in. Of course, you should always model the behavior you wish to see in your students. This might be the most powerful strategy of all. You can also provide sentence stems to help guide students as they get started communicating online.
The AVID site team would like to extend an invitation to ALL teachers to join us in our journey. We have dedicated ourselves to helping our students achieve their lifelong dream of attending a college or university. We need your voice and expertise to help reach our goal to be AVID schoolwide.

What is Cirkled in?
Cirkled In provides an online profile and portfolio platform for students to compile all their activities and accomplishments, both inside and outside school. Students can upload all sorts of media files, take recommendations from other people, and showcase themselves with a holistic profile and portfolio.
What can I use my Cirkled in profile for?
Cirkled In is a “storytelling platform” that lets you highlight yourself and your life narrative in one secure place, then share it along with your college or job applications. On Cirkled In, you compile all your activities, both inside and outside of school, complete with pictures, videos, awards, and recommendations. This makes it easy for admissions officers and hiring managers to learn what makes you unique!
