How We Began
Following the April 13, 2023 Community Meeting regarding the Planned Development of the open space property adjacent to Videra Park, a group of neighbors got together to discuss the proposal. We felt that our concerns and suggestions for making the proposed development a thoughtful addition to the community, as well as respectful to the habitat of the native oaks and wildlife, were dismissed out of hand. We were deeply troubled by the developer’s lack of any tree protection plan, as the property contains a rare remnant of oak savannah habitat which once dominated the Willamette Valley, but is now down to the last 2-3%. We strongly felt that the 150-300 year old trees deserved to be preserved as well as the wildlife corridor.
As a group, we quickly realized that if we were to be good stewards of the land, our best option was to find a way to purchase the land with the end goal of donating it to the city as an addition to the existing Videra Park.
